Coronation Street horror as Yasmeen spots new abuser on the street

Yasmeen Metcalfe went through months of abuse at the hands of her late husband Geoff, so she was horrified to spot another bully on the Coronation Street cobbles.

Last year Yasmeen faced prison after Geoff tortured and tormented her, until she finally snapped and struck her abuser with a wine bottle.

After being cleared of attempted murder in one of the most dramatic storylines of the year, Yasmeen was chased onto the roof of her house by Geoff, only for him to plummet to his death.

Recognising the signs from her toxic relationship, Yasmeen was disturbed by a conversation she overheard between her young neighbour Asha Alahan and her boyfriend Corey Brent in the cafe.

A sneering Corey mocked Asha on her 16th birthday, saying her new choker necklace was something that a dog would wear as he mashed up her birthday cake.

Asha said about the choker, a gift from her friend Nina Lucas: “I think it’s pretty cool.”

And cruel Corey retorted: “Yeah if you’ve got four legs and you like sniffing your mate’s crotch.

“You don’t want to be mistaken for a dog do you? I hate dogs.”

He then mocked “here doggy, doggy, doggy” as he crumbled up the cake in front of her.

He then instructed Asha to take the choker off, and when she complied he approved, saying she looked “fit as.”

After watching the chilling scene unfold in Wednesday night’s Corrie Yasmeen gently approached Asha, played by Tanisha Gorey, to warn her.

“I don’t know if it’s my place to say but if I don’t say anything … he just doesn’t seem like he’s being very kind,” she said.

And Nina agreed, telling Asha: “Carve your own path and if someone doesn’t like it, tell them to do one.”

“Well done, Asha! Stand up for yourself and never back down to anyone! You’re beautiful no matter what you wear or how you look,” cheered one Corrie viewer.

“Tell him to do one Asha,” said another.

Back at home the cruelty continued with Corey showing he was only interested in sleeping with Asha instead of her birthday, and he didn’t take kindly to her refusal to go upstairs with him.

“I don’t want people saying I’m going out with a dog.

“It doesn’t suit you, it looks stupid. I’m the one who has to look at it.”

And viewers were cheering as Asha gave him his marching orders.

Coronation Street worked with Women’s Aid, the national domestic violence charity working to end violence against women and children, on the Geoff and Yasmeen coercive control storyline and actors Ian Bartholomew and Shelley King met real-life survivors of domestic abuse.
