Doc Rivers gets water bath passing Red Auerbach record

Long-time Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers just moved up the history books. His assistant coach Ty Lue made sure to let everybody know that the one-time champion coach just passed Boston Celtics legendary mentor Red Auerbach on the all-time wins list.

Clippers guard Patrick Beverley immediately stood up and went to grab a couple of bottles of water. Rivers managed to stop Pat Bev on what he was clearly planning to do. But Beverley made sure to give his coach the water bath that he deserved right before they headed out.

Now at 11th all-time, Rivers notched his 939th career victory with the Clippers defeating the New Orleans Pelicans, 126-103 on Saturday night.

Led by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George’s combined 52 points, L.A. dominated New Orleans by setting a franchise record 25 three-pointers in the win. PG13, himself, made 8-of-11 from long range en route to a game-high 28 points. The Clippers improve to 1-1 in the bubble games after dropping their opener to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.

Rivers is 10 wins away from moving into the top 10 on the all-time wins list. While he may get another water bath when that happens, Rivers probably hopes they get a different bath sooner, this time with champagne should they win the NBA title this season.
