Leeds United transfer rumours: Liverpool offer Whites boost, Rangers join midfielder race

Leeds United have been quiet in the January transfer window thus far.

That was always the expectation having invested heavily in the summer window, but that doesn’t mean some deals can be completed, especially when it comes to adding young talent to the squad.

We have an update on two young targets who could be on their way to Elland Road this month or in the summer. We also have an update on a former young signing who seems to be on their way out of the club.

Here is a round-up of the latest Leeds United transfer rumours.

Liverpool give Larouci green light

Liverpool have given Leeds the green light to sign young left-back Yasser Larouci, according to recent reports.

Larouci made his Liverpool debut against Everton in the FA Cup last January and has made one appearance for the first team since then.

With Kostas Tsimikas’ arrival in the summer, Larouci has not made a first-team appearance this season, with Neco Williams also preferred in the back-up roles.

That, per Football Insider, has opened the door for Leeds to sign the young defender, whose contract expires at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer if Liverpool do not agree to a fee this month.

The report adds that Leeds attempted to sign Larouci in the summer but were knocked by Liverpool. Now, they are reportedly returning once again, with Brentford and Norwich City reportedly keeping tabs on the situation.

Mujica sale discussed

Leeds are reportedly looking to sell striker Rafa Mujica, who has failed to make an impact at Elland Road since signing with the club in 2019.

Mujica initially signed with the club on a three-year deal but was immediately loaned out, returning to Spain where he had spells with Segunda Liga Extremadura, Villarreal B, and now Real Oviedo, though he is yet to make a senior appearance for the second-tier team.

Despite this, La Voz de Asturias via TEAMtalk reports that Mujica’s agent is in discussions with Real Oviedo regarding a permanent transfer.

The report adds that Las Palmas are also interested in Mujica, while Numancia have also been credited with interest in the young striker.

Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United have proven to be a perfect fit, with the legendary Argentine guiding Leeds back to the promised land.

Now the Whites will be determined to uproot expectations and cement their top-tier status.

However, if recent history is anything to go by, Bielsa and Leeds will have an explosive impact.

Rangers enter McGurk race

Rangers have entered the race to sign young Wigan Athletic star Sean McGurk after Leeds had a bid rejected, per The Sun.

McGurk is in the final six months of his contract and is free to discuss terms on a pre-contract agreement with any overseas club. This includes Scottish-based Rangers.

Leeds, on the other hand, will either have to agree a fee for the 17-year-old and sign him in this window or wait until the summer in the hope that he does not sign a contract with Rangers or any other foreign side.

The report states that Leeds have been after McGurk for months, including in the summer, while Rangers boss Steven Gerrard knows the player from his time at the Liverpool academy.
