Traffic has been stopped on the M62 causing delays as rain batters the region.
M62 eastbound traffic has been halted around Junction 23 to 24 with queues stretching towards Junction 22 due to bumps and stranded vehicles.
Motorists heading into West Yorkshire are being warned of severe conditions in the Huddersfield, Halifax and Bradford areas caused by wintry conditions and multiple crashes.
The M60 Junction 17 exit is currently under water and may have to be closed.
The A57 Snake Pass is due to be very icy with heavy snowfall in the area, with the A672 between the M62 J22 and Ripponden very slow due to the snowy weather conditions.
There are also problems on the M6, with a car on its roof near J25 southbound and a vehicle in the central reservation between J19 and J18.
Flood warnings are also in place across Greater Manchester.
This includes for the Middle River Mersey catchment area near Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham and Urmston.
The Met Office has warned that river levels are rising at the Brinksway river gauge as a result of persistent rainfall. Consequently, flooding of low lying land, roads and farmland is possible throughout the day.
Further rainfall is forecast throughout today and into this evening.
The Met Office has also issued several alerts for today, with a yellow warning of snow and ice covering large parts of England and a large section of Greater Manchester until 9pm this evening.
The Met Office says: “Heavy snow may affect parts of the warning area, with possible significant travel disruption.”
